Up We Grow

An app in which parents can rent second hand toys and clothing: So that instead of filling up our wardrobes, the things our kids have out-grown can create value elsewhere.

The project brief

Families with children normally buy large amounts of clothes, toys and books as the children grow and their interests in toys and clothing sizes change. This is problematic both to the family's economy and to the increasing threat of today's consumer society. A more sustainable alternative is if parents were able to only rent what their children need at that time and let other families use things they do not need themselves.

The concept was to include:

•  Navigation of available items

•  Searching for objects to rent

•  Displaying item availability

•  Viewing an item description

•  Defining renting period

•  Complete booking of an item

•  Creating an add

•  Viewing price of an item

My vision: Up We Grow

Even though the main content of the app will be items such as children's toys, children's clothes and children's bikes - I did not want the app to feel childish. The obvious reason for this is of course that the app is not for the kids themselves, but for their parents.

Being a parent is very hectic and filled with clutter and colors as it is, thus I wanted to provide a break from this by keeping the app very simplistic and minimalist. The color scheme has low saturation with white used for the background and black for the main text. To make certain elements stand out more and to tie the app together, I used a primary color as complement to the very clean base. The brownish color #C99264 I chose can be seen throughout the app in slight variations which added an earthy, mature and calm feeling to the app.
